Introduction on the mandate and the services provided by SGS: Verification of secondary steel imports for India to ensure conformity with the requirements of the Directorate General of Foreign Trade. Approved inspection agencies (85 Nos.) listed in appendix 28 of Handbook of Procedure (Vol.–I), 2002-2007, of Foreign trade policy of India.

Main objectives: material quality,  chemical  analysis,  visual inspection, thickness and width of material and the ITC (HS) Code No.

PUBLIC NOTICE NO. 1 (RE-2006) / 2004-2009 NEW DELHI : 7TH  APRIL, 2006

In the exercise of powers conferred under paragraph 2.4 of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2004-2009, the Director General of Foreign Trade hereby notifies annual supplement of the Handbook of Procedures (Volume I) incorporating Annual Supplement as updated on 7th April, 2006 as contained in annexure to this Public notice and Appendices to the Handbook of Procedures (Vol. I). The following procedure notifies import of seconds / defectives of steel items.

  1. Import of seconds/defectives of steel items as mentioned at S.No.1 to 7 of Import Licensing Notes 2, appearing in Chapter 72 of the ITC (HS) classification of Export and Import items as on 07.04.2006, shall be allowed only through customs sea port at Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata.
  2. Import consignments of above mentioned seconds/defectives of steel items shall be accompanied by a pre shipment certificate regarding description of material, material quality, chemical analysis of the material, visual inspection, thickness and width of material and the ITC (HS) Code No. from any of the inspection agency as specified in Appendix 28 of the Hand Book of procedures, Vol. I, 2002-2007, and amended from time to time.
