Scope of the Mandate
Salt is a strategic commodity which is used as raw material by industry and as foods widely used by Indonesians, and therefore, production, supply, procurement and distribution of salts are very important and instrumental in improving public health through iodized salt program, improving income and welfare of traditional salt producers as well as in meeting the requirements of domestic industries; In view of this it is necessary to govern salt imports.

Description of Actual Services Provided by the SGS Staff

In its capacity as the sub contractor of the Surveyor named in the Decree for the verification or technical survey of salt imports, SGS:

a.  conducts an administrative verification on identity and authenticity of licenses, including all other conditions required to be met by the Salt Producer Importers and Registered Salt Importers.

b.  conducts a  field verification of various information and data on the country of origin of the salt, the HS classification, the description of the goods, the quantity and type, the date of shipment and port of destination.

Places evidence of inspection on the packaging of the salt which have been subject to the verification or technical survey, in the form of seals or labels.
